Tina bred pedigreed Maine Coon kittens for 18 years under the cattery name, Fog City. Tina is now living in New Haven, Connecticut and breeding under the cattery name, Elm City. Elm City cattery is registered with both TICA and CFA. All cats and litters are registered with TICA (The International Cat Association). Tina works with other experienced and exceptional U.S. breeders. Although Tina no longer shows her cats, there are many famous award winning cats in our bloodlines. This means that ancestors have been recognized as good examples of the breed.
The lovely girl here is Fog City Mountain Laurel. She still lives with us and she is a healthy spayed 13 year old.
She is in most of our pedigrees.
Our breeding cats have been screened for genetic problems, using Optimal Selection Wisdom Panel DNA testing. All our breeding cats are CLEAR (N/N) of all 8 breed specific genetic issues, most notably HCM, SMA, PKD and PKDef.
Our cats are also screened via cardiac ultrasound for heart disease.
We also look at our pedigrees very closely. We want to have well tested blood lines. All the parents of our breeding adults have healthy hearts at the time of their last echocardiograms.
A word about HCM ( hypertrophic cardiomyopathy): At this time scientists have identified one gene responsible for the condition but it is very likely there is at least 1 more gene involved. The DNA test is an extremely valuable tool but it does not tell us the entire story. It is still important to have breeding cats screened for heart disease via cardiac ultrasound.
If a cattery ONLY uses the DNA test and says their cattery is HCM free, they are misleading you.
HCM is never 100% preventable, but we do our best.
Laurel is 13 and her son is 12. They both live here with us.. I love their large green eyes. I still get kittens with green eyes on occasion.

Depending on the timing of Vaccines and Vet exam, around 12 weeks. We do not allow our kittens to leave until our Vet says it is OK.
You will be asked to sign an agreement to spay/neuter your kitten, and never declaw this pet. Pets must be kept indoors and receive regular Vet care.
All pet kittens are $2,500. We do not charge extra for males or certain colors.
Once a litter is born and thriving, a non refundable deposit of $200 will secure a kitten. A 2nd non refundable deposit of $200 will allow you to pick a specific kitten. This might take a few weeks, as we evaluate each kitten for show or breeder potential. Balance is due (in cash) at the time of pick up. In the event you don't get the kitten you like, you can use your deposit for the next litter. You can do this only once.
Kittens will be vaccinated 2x for FV-RCP, and dewormed 2x as well. All kittens are Vet checked before going to their new home. Kittens come with a health record and a written health guarantee. The health guarantee states that if your kitten dies from an inherited disease (such as HCM) we will replace the kitten up to age 4.
We provide samples of their food and litter (if needed), a scratching pad and some favorite toys.
Yes! They are handled daily from birth. Tina is with them frequently. They grow up in the master bedroom and are allowed to sleep on the bed. They listen to the radio (both talk and music) when no one is with them.
No. We don't believe in this practice. Let's leave that to Mother Nature.
